Sir William Russell Flint at work in 1956 – British Pathé

Not a tutorial or a time lapse video this time… It’s an old and rare footage of a great Artist at work. Sir William Russell Flint is known for his watercolor of beautiful girls and women and in this short video we can see him in his studio with his model. Video from British Pathè channel.

The popular artist Sir William Russell Flint R.A. is seen at work. Various shots of Sir William painting and C/Us of his sketches. He hands a sketch to a model who takes it away behind some curtains. Sir William tends to his tubes of paint and brushes whist she changes into an old fashioned dress and does her hair in a style to match the sketch. She emerges through the curtains and does a twirl for Sir William. He approves. She sits on a chair and Sir William arranges her hands and dress.

Various shots of Sir William painting and of his model. C/Us of the girl and of the painting. The work takes shape before our eyes. Narrator speaks of Sir William’s style and tells a story about how Sir William lost a paintbrush at sea but it was brought back to him the next day on the tide. Over this tale of whimsy we are shown C/Us of some of Sir William’s paintings. All featuring glamorous women in various poses.
