Octopus – Egg tempera on linen

Before I start painting I make Tempera Grassa binder out of egg yolk and oil, then I mull my pigments. Using that paint I build op my painting from dark to light on seized linnen.

Tempera grassa is a emulsion paint. It contains oil and dries waterproof, but while painting it is diluted with water. It is a paint that needs a dark to light build up, so the visual properties of the paint can get to their maximum effect and light up.
It is painted on seized linnen, without any gesso. Because of that, the paint changes dramatically when drying. In the end, unpainted linnen is still visible in some parts of the painting.
