I made all these mistakes in my figure proportions as I was learning life drawing. It was very frustrating, because I could see things were wrong, but I couldn’t always put my finger on what the cause was and couldn’t fix it.

I’ve also noticed students on our courses tend to make the same proportion mistakes. Hopefully, but outlining 6 of the major ones here, you can see which ones you are making and start to rectify them. We look at torso lengths, hand sizes, head sizes, shoulder widths and foreshortened limbs!

You’ll notice that the video is called top 5 proportion mistakes and then there are 6 mistakes explained in the video and then at the end I say ‘top 7’. I am getting better at drawing but not counting!
