Plein air oil demo – Painting a grisaille in the woods

This video finds me in the woods painting a grisaille. The colors I used in this video were: Titanium white, Mars black, and Transparent Red Oxide. The traditional grisaille is a gray monochromatic painting of your subject, but I modified a bit by the addition of red to warm it a bit. Helpful since I applied forest colors over it later which made the red a nice compliment. I encourage you to experiment with this method.I think,at times, it would be useful for a quick capturing of a subject since value plays a priority role in painting if you are trying to achieve some sense of realism. I would like to do this again using other colors to see what mood I can create. Thanks for watching! Questions?…leave them in the comments.
