Composition and the ability to compose and design pictures is a fundamental skill for an artist to develop. A method I’ve used to develop my own compositional skills is to study tonal composition.
This video tutorial will demonstrate how to draw a tonal composition study by studying ‘old master’ paintings, illustrations and movie stills.
In part 1 we will discuss the principles and concepts of tonal composition. I will also share the materials I like to use to draw and execute tonal composition studies and sketches.
