How important is an arts education

http://twitter.com/onlyfirstnews A future Labour government would put greater emphasis on the arts and creative subjects in schools, the party’s leader has said.

Ed Miliband was speaking following the publication of a major report which warned that creative subjects were at risk of being squeezed out of school curriculums.

The Warwick Commission found that the number of pupils choosing creative and craft subjects at GCSE had fallen by as much as half.

One man who is concerned by the current government’s approach to the arts is the artist Bob and Roberta Smith.

In fact he is so concerned that he has decided to stand as an independent candidate against the former Education Secretary Michael Gove.
