Painting details in Dune Grasses

Here’s a brief clip from the Sunset Dunes painting lesson at: https://mypaintingclub.com/lessons/18-Sunset-Dunes

When painting grasses or trees, or anything that we know is full of complex detail, it’s all too easy to get carried away with a little brush trying to put in every tiny little detail. That’s fine if that’s the way you want to paint, but if you’re aiming for a looser painting style the key is to stick with your big brushes as long as possible, switching to a fine brush for only the last few strokes.

That way you get the best of both worlds – beautiful expressive brushwork up close, with the illusion of complex detail from a distance. Niiice!

Give it a try!
