Watercolor Workshop "Log Canoe"

This demo features a Chesapeake bay Log Canoe under sail. Saving the white paper is key for the highlight areas. The idea is to carefully work from light to dark to build contrast. The painting is done on 300lb. cold press paper (Arches).
The log canoes were the Bay’s earliest working boats. The hulls were actually carved from 3-5 logs, trimmed, matched up and carved to a canoe shape. Many were converted to power in later years as they continued to be used as work-boats. Today’s fleet is mostly seen racing on summer weekends. They have evolved into graceful, speedy, racing yachts.
