Roman Influence on the Modern World

The Romans have been gone for a long time ago, but they continue to exercise a profound influence America and the Western World. The Romans have given us our alphabet, language, laws, calendar, architecture, religion, and entertainment. Without the Romans, our lives would be drastically different. We could write differently, govern differently, speak differently, and pray differently.

Roman influence is especially seen in the American system of government and in the architecture of government buildings such as the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court Building, and the Jefferson Memorial, which is modeled after the Roman Pantheon.
