Painting Light with Soft Pastel

I hope you enjoy this lesson on Painting Light with Soft Pastel – Plus an Underpainting Lesson. This is another painting using the long format of 4.5″ x 9″ with an underpainting using matte medium (like 3 previous tutorials). You don’t have to use my underpainting technique for this lesson, so get creative if you don’t have any Matte Medium.

I was inspired to try and capture the light that we often can see during a brilliant sunrise or sunset. It often drowns out any subject matter in its path and creates a bit of a low-key effect drowning out values and stark contrasts.
