We take a look at some great options for pencils that will help you make more expressive and beautiful figure drawings. We’ll also look at some of the most important skills for using your pencil: sharpening, grip and arm movements.
It’s also a story about how learning to draw figures is always a journey – no part of it comes easy!
The pencils we look at include the Conté à Paris Pierre Noire 1710 B pencils, General Charcoal Pencil, Peel and Sketch, Wolff’s Carbon, Koh-I-Noor coloured lead and clutch pencil.
In the video, you also see me use a Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel pencil for one of the figure drawings. That’s a more tricky pencil to sharpen because it can snap quite easily, but I love using it.
