Making Medieval Ink – Iron gall black ink

If you’d like to make this ink yourself, I highly recommend The Mazi for the oakgalls I use to make mine: https://themazi.com?aff=34

While flipping through the Victoria and Albert Museum’s publication “Renaissance Secrets: Recipes & Formulas,” I came across a recipe for iron gall Medieval / Renaissance black ink. This is a 16th century ink recipe, but records show that it has been used since the early-mid medieval years.

By the time this video goes up, I will be selling bottles of my homemade ink! Head over to my Instagram (@SundayScriptorium) and send me a DM to order one.
