How to draw a portrait with a ballpoint pen as a part of learning how to draw the head, facial features, people, and the figure. This is a drawing of Art Blakey, late jazz musician.
In this tutorial I show you how to draw a portrait using a regular, simple, cheap, actually FREE ole TD Bank ballpoint (ball-point or ball point) pen. I’ll use the same pen and ink techniques like hatching, cross-hatching, scribbling and even stippling in some areas.

The unique advantage of the ball point pen is that you can make lines of a wide variety in value and weight which is perfect for capturing subtle value changes when modeling even the most complex forms or for sketching things out before you get serious with your drawing. Its fun!
